Jarlwa Jillgibgininum
Artist: Yvonne Newry
Story:
This place is called Jarlwa Jillgibgininum. It tells of three river pigeons which are shown on the left side of the painting. In the ngarrangarni the three pigeons went to collect lots of spinifex (jardang) on side of the hill to make fish net (marlawan) in the river.
They took the spinifex back to the river and soaked it and placed it at the end of the rocks to trap fish. You can see these rocks just below the dam wall at the Kununurra Diversion Bridge. Each of the birds have a Miriwoong name. From the top right to bottom they are Keboong, Jarlwa, Birlgiya, They are short neck birds that sit on trees all day by the river.
